A portrait of the maverick stylist and South London personality Curtly Thomas. (b.1993- graduated from London College of Fashion 2014). Mary was introduced to Curtly by their mutual friends, performance artists Robyn & Margaret. She had recently seen their performance of ‘Death & Dressing Up’ at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club.
Both artist and sitter are from South London and share an interest in Dressing Up and Costume. The background with a historically warped view of Vauxhall Bridge refers to Vauxhall and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. Curtly wears a Velvet Frock Coat from the National Theatre.
